STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC begins their 2024 preseason by hosting Mercer University Friday night. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Tormenta Stadium. Fans can watch all the action live on the Tormenta FC YouTube Channel.
Friday night will be the third time that Tormenta and the Bears have faced one another, having played each other in friendlies during the 2019 and 2022 preseason. Mercer is traveling to Statesboro following a 7-8-3 (W-D-L) 2023 season, winning the SoCon Tournament and exiting the NCAA Tournament in the first round.
Tormenta FC returns to Tormenta Stadium following a 12-6-14 2023 campaign. Six players from South Georgia’s 2023 roster are returning for 2024.
The last time the two sides faced each other, the match finished in a 1-1 draw with an Arthur Bosua goal for South Georgia.
This is Tormenta FC’s first preseason match of five going into the 2024 USL League One season. Next week, the club will be traveling to Huntsville, Alabama, where they will be playing Chattanooga FC on Friday and Huntsville City FC on Sunday. On Saturday, February 24, Tormenta FC will host Jacksonville University. South Georgia will play their final preseason match against USL Championship side Charleston Battery on March 2.
The USL League One regular season opens for Tormenta FC on Saturday, March 9 as they host Central Vally Fuego FC in what will be the first match under their new manager, Jermaine Jones.
