STATESBORO, Ga. – May 15, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC is thrilled to announce the signing of defender Jodi Smith, pending league and federation approval. She joins the club following her third season at Florida Atlantic University.
“Joining this club has brought me an amazing opportunity, I’m very grateful for it, and I cannot wait to see how this season goes,” Smith said. “I’m excited to play with this amazing group of girls and excited to bring some hardware home! “
Smith completed her third season of collegiate soccer with the Owls, during which time she started 58 out of the 59 matches in which she appeared. She was recognized for her defense performances during the 2023 season, earning the American Athletic Conference Defender of the Week on one occasion and being named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Smith started her collegiate career in 2021, playing in 18 matches for the Owls. She scored her first collegiate goal during the 2021 season and was named to the All-Conference USA Freshman Team.
“Jodi is another talented left-footed center back with tons of experience at the NCAA DI level. She reads the game very well on both sides of the ball and has great passing range. She is very quick and fast and is strong at 1v1 defending. She is also a strong and confident leader on the field.”
