Tormenta FC played its first home game earlier this week against East Atlanta FC at Benedictine Military School in Savannah. The match was back and forth for the full 90 minutes, with both teams creating plenty of chances. Just when it looked like South Georgia would be able to pull out its second win of the season, East Atlanta came storming back in the 86th minute to secure the tie.
Head Coach Nick Jaramillo was content with the result saying, “We had some great moments of football and showed well against tough competition."
Tormenta will have to keep up that great football against South Carolina United. SC United will come out Saturday looking to win its inaugural USL Academy League game. Meanwhile, this will be Tormenta FC’s fifth game of the season.
Scoring has not been an issue for the young South Georgia squad this season. Joshua Elam, the son of former NFL Pro-Bowl kicker Jason Elam, has been a scoring machine thus far. He currently averages a goal a game. Tyler Bissek and captain Renzo Andreucetti have also been consistent sources of scoring thus far.
The Tormenta FC goalscorers will have to work extra hard to get balls in the back of the net on this South Carolina team that is stacked at the goalkeeper position. Whether it's Carson Williams or Jeffery Brown that gets that start, scoring will be a tall task. Williams, a recent graduate of Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, South Carolina, has been solid in his high school varsity years. During his senior year he allowed his opponents only 1.5 goals a game on average which is very low, considering the high-scoring and attacking-oriented style of play that most high schools have. Brown is two years younger than his teammate Williams but has played at a high level for years. He played on the South Carolina United ECNL U16 team and was nothing short of spectacular.
Following Saturday’s Southeast Division clash Tormenta FC has an 11-day break. On Sunday, June 27, the team will take on South Carolina United in a rematch at SEFL Soccer Center in Irmo, South Carolina.
