STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced defender Sebastian Sanchez to its 2022 USL League One roster on a season-long loan ahead of the squad’s home match this Saturday versus Union Omaha. Sanchez joins Tormenta FC from Louisville City FC in the USL Championship, pending league and federation approval.
The 18-year-old defender has been honing his craft with Louisville City FC Academy, one of the best academies across the USL ecosystem, since the program’s inception in 2020. In 2021, Sanchez appeared regularly for LouCity’s USL Academy squad that went 6-3-1. The rising center back was also invited to play in the Elite Clubs National League Regional All-Star Game.
“At a young age, Sebastian has earned himself a contract with one of the elite soccer institutions in this country. Given Louisville doesn’t have a second team, their intentions are for him to work his way into their first-team squad. We’d like to help him get there. In order to do that, he knows he needs to be present here, committed here, and fight for roster spots and minutes here.
Ian Cameron, TFC Head Coach Ian Cameron
“Sebastian’s an impressive young man and has the character to succeed,” Cameron said. “Our club is excited to have him representing us this season.”
The center back participated in Louisville City’s 2022 USL Championship preseason and appeared frequently throughout the team’s preseason matches, including a 90-minute shift in a win over El Paso Locomotive FC.
The 2021 All-State Selection is a senior at Ballard High School and committed to continuing his collegiate athletic career at Bellevue University, the United Soccer League’s Official Education Partner.
“I am very excited to begin playing for Tormenta FC. I hope to help Tormenta bring the title home to Statesboro.”
Sebastian Sanchez, Tormenta FC Defender
Sanchez joins a growing roster of returners ready for a championship run, with the added firepower of recent signings Josue Soto and Kaziaiah Sterling. Additional player announcements, kit reveals and more are expected soon, so fans should download the Tormenta FC app or follow the club on social media to stay up to date.
Tormenta FC is excited for a historic 2022 as it transitions from Erk Russell Park to Tormenta Stadium. Single-match tickets are now live for advance purchase ahead of Saturday’s match versus Union Omaha. Supporters can also purchase season memberships or Flex Ticket packages and guarantee their presence at every home match this season.
