STATESBORO, Ga. – A revitalized South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 continues to push for a playoff position following a 2-1 win at Dalton Red Wolves SC. In a battle between 3rd and 4th in USL League Two’s South Central Division table, Tormenta FC 2 visits the SC United Bantams this Saturday, June 18, at Southeastern Freight Lines Soccer Complex, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET. South Georgia knows it’s now or never as the calendar does not get any easier, and a win is vital to catching up to the top two teams in the division.
Tormenta FC 2 took on Dalton Red Wolves SC last Saturday, coming home victorious with a final score of 2-1. Argentinian forward Alejo Binaghi was essential to earning all three points, bagging the first goal of the night in the 66th minute and his first goal for TFC 2. Dalton evened up the score in the 82nd minute, but the lead didn’t last long as TFC 2’s Binaghi scored a brace to ensure all three points. South Georgia currently sits fourth with eleven points in the South Central Division with seven games played (three wins, two draws one loss).
There have been numerous memorable encounters between the two sides throughout the years with an overall record of seven wins for TFC 2, four wins for Bantams and one draw. A year has passed since their last encounter on June 18, 2021, when the SC United Bantams brought three points back from Erk Russell Park after defeating the home side 2-3. Now, TFC 2 looks to rework history, put another win in the books and separate themselves from teams below them in the division standings.
The SC United Bantams host Tormenta FC 2 in a battle between two of the top four teams in the division; both teams have an opportunity to distance themselves from each other. The Bantams enter the match after a dominating 3-0 win against Tri-Cities Otters last night. Two games in three days will surely put a test to their physical abilities, however an opportunity to get two wins can put team spirits at an all-time high. The Bantams currently rank third in the division with 12 points.
South Georgia’s pre-professional soccer team, Tormenta FC 2, has helped nearly 50 players achieve their professional dreams since 2015. TFC 2 finished its season as champion of the Deep South Division in 2018 before making a run to the League Two Semifinals for the first time in club history in 2019. In 2021, Tormenta FC 2 finished the season with a 12-4-1 overall record (10-3-1 in the regular season), qualifying for the League Two Playoffs for a third straight season.
