STATESBORO, Ga. – Tormenta FC tied against FC Tucson in its last-ever match at Erk Russell Park tonight. Mukwelle Akale scored Tormenta FC’s only goal of the night following a free kick from miles away.
Five minutes into the match, Sterling found his first opportunity following a prestige pass placed in by Ryan Sierkowski. The shot hit the outside of the post denying Sterling his first goal of the match.
A quiet second half saw neither team get a clear opportunity on goal until the 77th minute when South Georgia were granted a free kick. Akale and Gabriel Cabral stood in front of the ball leaving the opposing team perplexed as to who was going to take the set piece. Cabral had been successful with free kicks throughout the season. Nevertheless, it was Akale who shot the ball into the near corner post of the keeper.
FC Tucson were able to get the equalizer in the 91st minute of the match following a through ball placed into the penalty box.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Mukwelle Akale. Coming in at the mid season, Akale has been a great addition to Ian Cameron’s squad. A consistent offensive presence throughout the game allows him to use his speed to beat the opposing team defenders. A well placed free kick saw him score his first professional goal in the United States.
