“Coaching is what I want to do after my time on the field comes to an end, so the opportunity to use my summer to help the future talent of the club to develop and fall in love with the game is something I cherish and will continue to do whenever an opportunity arises.
“Being able to influence young women around the community means more than anyone could truly know. It’s the inaugural season, and it’s important to show players that their dreams are possible as long as they follow their heart and put in the work.”
After committing to Tormenta FC Women, Foshee attended the team’s open trial on Jan. 8 where Academy players that she formerly coached were in attendance as trialist.
“I am proud to see some of the girls I helped coach last summer at the trial and continuing to pursue their dreams! Everyone was competing at a high level, and it’s awesome to see the academy girls compete against established collegiate women soccer players.”
With the creation of Tormenta FC Women, local female athletes now have an elite soccer team where they can develop and prepare for the professional level. The club hopes to keep local talent local as it continues to expand its player pathways.
“I think it’s important to be able to see Tormenta players in the community. Whether it’s at the grocery store or at a school, it’s vital knowing that people in the community are there with you and have the same end goals as you. We all want to be great and to help Tormenta build a winning team so other local girls can stay in the region and play for Tormenta, win titles and build something special in Statesboro.”
Tormenta FC is known for having a clear development pathway for boys from age 2 all the way to the pro level, and now, the club aims to create those same opportunities for young girls in the South Georgia and South Carolina Lowcountry region.
“Tormenta’s values on and off the field are what attracted me to play here, and I really value the growth and developmental aspect. I’m 19 years old, and I’m still learning today just as any youth player would, and I think that’s important to be able to grow and play your game. I think that anyone that can play for Tormenta will get that, and that’s what I want for myself as I work towards my future endeavors.”
