STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced Matheus Cassini as its first new player signing ahead of the 2023 USL League One season, pending league and federation approval. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder from Brazil joins South Georgia on a two-year contract.

With the firepower we have in our front line, we believe Matheus can have a very strong campaign creating and scoring goals. Cassini joins Tormenta FC following one year with League One side Forward Madison. With 26 games played, Cassini proved to be one of the offensive engines to get the Madison side going. In 2022, the creative midfielder produced five goals and five assists for Madison, making him one of the top producers on offense.

Before moving to the United States in 2021, Cassini spent time with Botev Vratsa of the efbet Liga, the first-tier of Bulgarian soccer. At the youth level in his native Brazil, Cassini featured for the historic Corinthians. Cassini also featured for prestigious clubs in his career, including Palermo, Fluminense and Ponte Preta.
Tormenta FC opens up its 2023 USL League One season on the road against North Carolina FC on Friday, March 17, from WakeMed Soccer Park. The team then kicks off its home opener against the Charlotte Independence on Saturday, March 25, from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia.
