STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC midfielder Chris Heckenberg was voted the South Georgia Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) for June. Heckenberg featured in all USL League One matches for Tormenta FC in June, totaling 417 minutes played.
The winner was determined via a weighted average from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote comprised 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots comprised 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprised 20 percent of the poll.

Heckenberg earned 54.56% of the total vote, with forward Kazaiah Sterling coming in second with 26.52%. Defender Nick Akoto and midfielder Tobias Otieno followed at 13.04% and 5.86%, respectively.
Heckenberg has exhibited commendable qualities throughout the midfield in his second year with Tormenta FC. Heckenberg’s ability to contribute to South Georgia’s overall performance through intelligent decision-making and precise passing has been noteworthy. Heckenberg has eight chances created throughout the season and is third best in passing accuracy with 85%.
On Saturday, Tormenta FC receives the visit of Chattanooga Red Wolves SC at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. Saturday’s match will see a rematch of last year’s 2022 USL League One Final, where Tormenta FC lifted its first-ever USL League One title from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Nov. 6, 2022.
