STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL League One team has announced the four nominees for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month award for July, and the community will help decide the winner.
Defender Nick Akoto, midfielders Mukwelle Akale and Matheus Cassini and forward Kazaiah Sterling are all up for the award after a fantastic run of form throughout July.
Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month award will run through Sunday, Aug. 6, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with voting permitted once per day. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.
Player of the Month Nominees:
Nick Akoto, Defender: On the offensive end, the talented wing back tallied one goal, one assist and six goal-scoring chances created. On the defensive end, Akoto recorded 10 tackles, seven clearances and four interceptions. His performances on both ends of the field were crucial for the club throughout the month.
Mukwelle Akale, Midfielder: The winger provided an important spark at key times for the club during the month of July, scoring three goals, providing one assist and creating two scoring chances to help the team earn three victories.
Matheus Cassini, Midfielder: The Brazilian talent scored three goals and created two scoring opportunities throughout the month. Cassini also impressed on the defensive end, recording four clearances, three tackles, two blocked shots and one interception.
Kazaiah Sterling, Forward: The talented striker scored four goals and provided one assist during the month of July, securing the all-time leading goalscorer title for Tormenta FC’s League One side. Tallying goals from the ground and in the air, Sterling also recorded eight chances created for the team.
