STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC will host North Carolina FC in an important 2023 USL League One regular season contest this Saturday, Aug. 5, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium (ESPN+). Tormenta FC defeated North Carolina FC in the first meeting between the two sides; Mukwelle Akale scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory on March 17.
Tormenta FC will debut its new “Championship Nights” Third Kit for the match this Saturday, and fans are encouraged to wear black to the match for the first ever Black Out at Tormenta Stadium. Fans can use code “BLACKOUT” at TormentaFCShop.com ahead of the match to receive a discount on select merchandise.

Since the first meeting between the two teams, North Carolina has excelled on the field. NCFC boasts an impressive 10-4-4 (W-L-D) overall record entering Saturday’s game, with Oalex Anderson and Rafael Mentzingen leading the side with a combined 17 goals scored so far this season.
Despite sitting below NCFC in the table with a 7-9-3 (W-L-D) overall record, Tormenta FC has produced more goals (31) and has a higher goal-scoring conversion rate (19%) than NCFC. A good run of form from Akale, Jackson Khoury and Kazaiah Sterling – who was nominated for League One’s Player of the Month for July award – will hopefully carry into the weekend.

Records may also be broken this Saturday in Statesboro, Georgia. Pablo Jara, who has been with the League One team since its inception in 2019 and also played for the club’s USL League Two squad in 2018, will earn his 100th appearance for the professional side, should he take the field. In addition to Jara’s record-setting appearance for the club, Head Coach Ian Cameron has an opportunity to win his 50th competitive match for the club across all competitions, which includes USL League One play, USL League Two play and U.S. Open Cup action.
Following Saturday’s fixture against NCFC, Tormenta FC shifts its attention to a midweek clash against Central Valley Fuego FC next Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium (ESPN+).
