Tormenta FC Academy is extremely thrilled to announce Philip Neiland as the club’s U15 (2009) and U16 (2008) MLS NEXT Coach. Neiland has extensive professional coaching experience and education in Europe, Africa, Asia & North America.
Neiland’s experiences include:
- First Team Assistant Coach roles at Quang Nam FC and Binh Dinh FC in Vietnam.
- Maldives National Team Opposition Analyst during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
- Technical Advisor and Scout at Nadm FC in Ghana.
- Co-Head Coach at Cork Institute of Technology, First Team Assistant Coach at Douglas Hall AFC in Ireland.
- Academy Director, U15/U13 KFA League Head Coach in South Korea.
“Phil is the ideal coach to work within the MLS NEXT program,” Tormenta FC Academy Vice President Brad Nein said. “We want our players to be pushed daily while receiving instruction from coaches with top licenses that have professional playing and coaching experience. What a big win for soccer in our area of the country. We are all so excited for Phil and his family to arrive in South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina to work with our MLS NEXT boys.”
As an assistant coach with Binh Dinh FC from 2020-2022, 10 players graduated from the academy to sign professional contracts, and 11 players were called up to the Vietnam National Team. In the 2022 season, Binh Dinh FC placed third in the V League 1 and second in the VFF National Cup.
Neiland has a UEFA “A” License from the Scottish Football Association, UEFA “B” License from the Football Association of Ireland, United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, Barca Sport Psychology Certificate, Asia Football Confederation Fitness L2, and a BA in International Studies.
“I have been an admirer of Tormenta’s growth and impact from afar,” Neiland said. “I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to return to the USA and work with the staff and players on the professional pathway at Tormenta FC. During the interview process, it became clear to me that Tormenta’s community-based values and mission align with my own principles and goals. It is an honor for me to work together with some fabulous people to take football in the region to new heights.”
Neiland also played at Cork City FC, Cobh Ramblers FC, and Virginia Wesleyan University.
Neiland will move to the region with his wife, Nga, and their daughter, Mary An. The Neiland family will be looking to combine their efforts to contribute to and support the well-being and health of the greater community.
