STATESBORO, Ga. — With USL League One Playoffs hopes on the line, South Georgia Tormenta FC and One Knoxville SC meet in Statesboro, Georgia, for an important contest at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Saturday evening. Saturday’s match, presented by Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, is Georgia Southern University Night and Hispanic Heritage Night at Tormenta Stadium.
The Week 28 meeting will be the third and final regular season match between Knoxville and South Georgia, with Tormenta FC claiming a 2-0 victory on April 21 and Knoxville claiming a 3-1 victory in Georgia on Sept. 1.
Tormenta FC enters the game with a 10-13-4 (W-L-D) overall record and on the heels of a dramatic 3-2 victory against North Carolina FC in Week 27 of the regular season. Kazaiah Sterling leads TFC with 12 goals scored in league play; however, Mukwelle Akale has also netted 10 goals this season, marking the first time in club history the League One side has had two different players with 10 or more goals in league play. Tormenta FC is three goals scored away from setting a new league record for most goals in a season; however, TFC is also three goals conceded away from setting a new league record for most goals conceded in a season.
Knoxville, meanwhile, enters the match with a 9-10-9 overall record, losing 0-1 to Greenville Triumph SC in its most recent matchup. Earning a victory against Tormenta FC last time out, One Knoxville will be looking to repeat its success and will look to Jake Keegan, who leads the team with six goals scored, for the breakthrough once again.
Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC will turn its attention to a road game against the Richmond Kickers, which will kick off at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 30 (ESPN+).
