STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL League One team has announced the four nominees for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month award for September, and the community will help decide the winner.
Midfielders Mukwelle Akale, Pedro Fonseca, and Jackson Khoury and Goalkeeper Pablo Jara are all up for the award after a fantastic run throughout September.
Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month award will run through Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with voting permitted once per day. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.

Player of the Month Nominees:
Mukwelle Akale, Midfielder: The “Minnesota Messi” played in all five games for the team, starting four in September. Akale scored three goals including the opener in the 3-2 victory over North Carolina FC and the lone goal in the 1-0 win over One Knoxville SC. Akale also created 10 goal-scoring opportunities during the month.
Pedro Fonseca, Midfielder: The Brazilian talent continued to produce in the final third for Tormenta FC during the month of September. Fonseca started all five games during the month, scoring once, assisting once, and creating eight goal-scoring chances.
Jackson Khoury, Midfielder: The Australian-Lebanese attacker scored one goal and created two goal-scoring chances in his five appearances for Tormenta FC in September. Khoury’s goal was a left footed strike that leveled the score at 2-2 in Cary, North Carolina.
Pablo Jara, Goalkeeper: The Chilean shot-stopper started four of the five matches over the month of September making 19 saves. He was the Player of the Match in the 3-2 victory at North Carolina FC and the 1-0 victory against One Knoxville SC and kept another clean sheet against the Richmond Kickers.
