STATESBORO, Ga. (December 4, 2023) We are happy to announce our first signing of the offseason in French Ivorian Cameroonian midfielder Tavio D’Almeida as a free agent. The 22-year-old midfielder joins us after a spell at USL League Two side Fort Wayne FC in Indiana.
D’Almeida played for Fort Wayne FC this past summer where he played a crucial role in the team’s unbeaten regular season run. Fort Wayne was eliminated in the USL League Two conference quarterfinals, bringing their season to an end.
Tavio joined Fort Wayne FC after playing for the Cardiff City U21 team for three seasons. He made one senior appearance for the Bluebirds playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion FC. D’Almeida joined Cardiff City after growing up in the AJ Auxerre academy in France.
“Tavio fits very well into our club model. He’s a young, hungry and talented footballer who has endured some trials and tribulations in his early career,” said head coach Ian Cameron. “He’s fought hard to get himself in front of our staff and took his chance, impressing us on and off the field.”
As for what fans can expect from the midfielder, Cameron added, “Our midfielders these last few years have been excellent at recovering the ball for their team, and Tavio will continue that trend. But he also sees the game really well. He can coordinate teammates and be that link between build and attack. As Tavio adapts to the American landscape, we believe our fans with appreciate him more and more as the 2024 campaign develops.”
