STATESBORO, Ga. (December 19, 2023) We are excited to announce the signing of U.S. Virgin Islands right back Joshua Ramos. The 23-year-old joins the club following his graduation from Dalton State University.
The captain of the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team, Ramos joins Tormenta FC having made seven appearances for his country. He recently led the team as captain in a Nations League match against Aruba on November 16, 2023. Joshua made his debut for the national team on November 17, 2019, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 defeat against the Cayman Islands.
During the past two seasons at Dalton State University, Ramos made 36 appearances, scored 14 goals, and provided 15 assists. Following the 2022 season, he was named to the SSAC All-Freshman Team and following the 2023 season he was named a NAIA Second Team All-American and SSAC First Team All-Conference.
Before his time at Dalton State University, Ramos played for Lakeland United in the UPSL during the 2022 season and for Winter Haven United in the UPSL from 2019 to 2022.
Ramos began his career with AFA Olaine of the Latvian First League, which is the country’s second-highest division, where he made three appearances and scored a goal in a 3-2 victory over FK Alliance.
“Our club gets great joy from finding guys who fly under that radar a little, but, when provided the opportunity, will flourish at USL level. We’re bullish that Josh can make a big impact in his first year as a pro with us. He has all the physical and technical attributes to be a very good attacking outside back, and will allow us to maintain a consistent game model in how we want our right backs to operate,” said head coach Ian Cameron. “There is always an adaption period for young players like Josh, but what gives us confidence he can convert quickly is the program he arrives from, Dalton State, are really well coached and held to a high set of standards, therefore making the transition easier. If he absorbs our information quickly he could make an immediate impact.”
Ramos discussed his decision to join Tormenta saying, “I chose Tormenta because they best align with my core values as a player. I value family and I feel that the way the team is shaped that family is at the forefront of all coaching and player development. This allows us to build a strong cohesion on and off the field.”
