STATESBORO, Ga. – March 7, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC opens the 2024 playing season against Central Valley Fuego at 7:30 p.m. March 9, at Tormenta Stadium, following a 12-6-14 2023 campaign. Six players from South Georgia’s 2023 roster are returning for 2024.

Tormenta FC enters the season with a 2-3-0 (W-L-D) preseason record, coming off of a defeat to USL Championship League team Charleston Battery. With a host of strong players on the pitch, Tormenta plans to leverage their new team members, while elevating the game-time tactics of returning players. Notable goal scorers of the preseason for South Georgia include midfielder Pedro Fonseca, forward Sebastián Vivas, forward Gabriel Rodriguez, and midfielder Ajmeer Spengler.
Central Valley Fuego comes into the season with a 2-2-1 preseason record, following a win against Fresno Pacific State University. This Fresno-based team is newer to the USL League One, joining the league in 2020.
South Georgia holds the series advantage over Central Valley with a 3-2-0 head-to-head record. The last time the two sides faced each other, Tormenta FC came out victorious in a 2-1 match at Tormenta Stadium.
Saturday night will see the return to Tormenta Stadium for former Tormenta midfielder and 2022 USL League One Champion, Christ Heckengerg, who signed with Central Valley Fuego during the offseason.
