Statesboro, Ga. – March 15, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Callum Stretch received a call-up to play for the Puerto Rican National Team in the upcoming two friendly matches against Belize. Stretch will play with the team March 21 and March 24 under Head Coach Charlie Trout.

This is not Stretch’s first time joining the Puerto Rican National Team. In 2021, the defender made his debut for the Puerto Rican National Team, where the team emerged victorious over the Dominican Republic in a nail-biting 2-1 score. He and the team then went on to play against Guatemala, totaling three caps for Stretch.
“Rejoining the Puerto Rico team is significant for me, as the island represents a great deal for my mom and grandfather, who are both still living there,” Stretch explained. “Any national team is an honor to represent and with the Puerto Rico federation making massive strides in World Cup Qualifying the timing made sense to return.”
The 24-year-old defender also made three appearances in the Nordic Cup for the United States U-18 team in 2015 under Head Coach Javier Perez, marking his playing debut for national teams. One year later Stretch joined the U.S. U-20 National Team, training with the team and appearing in one friendly.
“Callum has represented the Puerto Rico Men’s National Team in the past, and is revived by the idea of convincing their new staff he can add quality to the group once again. He will arrive at camp in a frame of mind that he’s progressed to the professional ranks, has added tools to his game and is more equipped than ever to play international football,” Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron explained. “We’re looking forward to watching their games both as a spectacle, but also to keep learning Callums game from live matches, given we’ve only been working with him a few months now. He’ll grow from his 10 days away no question.”
Stretch’s one-year contract with a club option for 2024 marked his first professional contract with USL League One. Watch the Los Angeles native and the Tormenta FC team play this season at the beautiful Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia.
