South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Joshua Ramos received a call-up to the U.S. Virgin Islands World Cup Qualifying Camp. Ramos and The Dashing Eagle play a home match on March 22 and an away match on March 26 against the British Virgin Islands.
“It’s an honor to represent the Virgin Islands in the World Cup Qualifiers, and these next two matches are very important for our future and our island’s future going forward.” Ramos said.
Since his debut in 2019, the 23-year-old defender has become a regular name on the call-up list, representing the U.S. Virgin Islands seven times. Most recently, Ramos played for the U.S. Virgin Islands on Nov. 17, 2023, when he captained the team against Aruba.
“Josh has been an important starter for the U.S. Virgin Islands for a few years. He returns to camp now having turned professional, and I know he’s excited to see what squad they have managed to bring together,” Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. “He’s a lad that plays with such high competitive spirit, and that mindset lends itself well to any game, especially international football. We anticipate he will play as a wing-back in the upcoming games, so those minutes he plays next week will help him develop and be ready to make an impact this season.”
Ramos signed his first professional contract with Tormenta FC, a one-year contract with a club option, on Dec. 19, 2023. Since then, Ramos has featured in all five preseason matches for South Georgia and made the bench during Saturday’s match against Forward Madison FC. Ramos joined Tormenta FC after playing 36 times for Dalton State University, contributing 14 goals and 15 assists.
