STATESBORO, Ga. – April 30, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC announced the return of Blair Currie to its 2024 USL W League roster, pending league and federation approval. The New Zealand native rejoins South Georgia after making the NAIA National Championship Semifinals with Spring Arbor University.
“I’m really happy to be back with Tormenta for another season,” Currie said. “The team is looking great, and I’m very excited to see what we can achieve this year. It’s going to be great being back at Tormenta Stadium, playing in front of the best fans.”
In 2023, Currie played 19 matches and allowed just nine goals all season. During her 1,570 minutes of action, she made 43 saves for the Cougars. Currie led the team to the NAIA National Championship Semifinals, where they lost to the eventual NAIA National Champions, the University of the Cumberlands Patriots.
Currie initially joined South Georgia for the 2023 W League season after a stellar 2022 collegiate season, during which she won the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship with Spring Arbor University. In that season, she played 20 regular-season games, totaling 1,432 minutes played. Currie conceded just three goals across all competitions, earning her a spot on the 2022 United Soccer Coaches NAIA Women’s All-American Second Team.
Before attending Spring Arbor, Currie spent the 2019 season with Seton Hall University, where she was featured in three games, recording nine saves throughout her time with the institution. She was also a member of the history-making New Zealand Under-17 women’s team, which placed third at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay in 2018.
Head Coach Jim Robbins spoke highly about his returning goalkeeper saying, “We are excited to have Blair back again this season. She is an excellent goalkeeper and brings a wealth of experience at the collegiate and New Zealand YNT levels back to Tormenta FC. She is always very professional in her approach to training and games and is a strong leader. She is also very mature and understands what is required to play at the highest levels in the game. Those qualities will prove invaluable to her and to our team as we pursue our goals this summer.”
