STATESBORO, Ga. – April 30, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC is excited to announce the signing of Iona University captain and five-year starter Sofia Giamanco.
“I am so excited to play in this amazing atmosphere and be able to challenge myself this summer,” Giamanco said. “Tormenta is a great club, and I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to get started!”
The 23-year-old played primarily as a forward in her collegiate career in which she made 77 appearances, netted six goals, four of which were game-winners, and provided six assists. Giamanco was a member of the All-Rookie Team during her freshman year.
The New Jersey native also brings experience as a midfielder, having played both as a forward and midfielder for her academy team and high school. During her academy career, Giamanco was a two-time national champion.
Head Coach Jim Robbins will utilize Giamanco as a right-back, saying, “Sofia brings a unique skill set to Tormenta FC this summer. She is a technical, crafty attacking player who can play anywhere up front or in the midfield. She is also very good at taking players on in wide areas and getting herself to goal. She will be a great fit for our attacking style, and we expect her to use her skill set and athleticism to dominate the wide areas of the field.”
