STATESBORO, Ga. – May 7, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC is thrilled to announce the signing of Dara Russo from the University of South Carolina Upstate, pending league and federation approval. The forward joins following her second season with the Spartans.
“I am very excited to be playing for Tormenta FC this summer,” Russo said. “I can’t wait to be a part of this team and compete in a competitive environment. This is a great opportunity, and I can’t wait to develop as a player over the summer.
Russo spent the last two years at the University of South Carolina Upstate, where she has netted 21 goals and provided three assists in her 37 appearances.
Russo earned the Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Year award and all-conference first-team honors, after leading the Spartans with 15 goals scored during the 2023 season.
During the 2022 season, she found the back of the net on six occasions, earning her the Big South Freshman of the Year award. She was also recognized as a member of the All-Conference Second Team and All-Freshman Team.
“Dara is a fast, athletic, proven goalscorer at the NCAA D1 level. She is a clinical finisher and can score goals when playing from wide positions or centrally,” Head Coach Jim Robbins said. “She is equally adept at scoring inside a crowded box or from breakaway situations using her power and pace. She is also strong in the air. She has all the tools to be a prolific goal scorer in the USL W this summer.”
