STATESBORO, Ga. – July 2, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s Drew Romig has been named to the USL Jägermeister Cup’s Team of the Round bench for round five. Romig’s performance during Saturday’s match helped secure South Georgia two points in the USL Jägermeister Cup standings.
Romig played a crucial role in South Georgia’s result, making two standout saves in the second half. In the 50th minute, a Fuego attacker headed a cross on target, forcing a reaction save from the Virginia native. Romig was called into action again in the 69th minute as Fuego’s Javier Mariona fired a shot toward the near post, which Romig saved.
Romig was between the sticks for the penalty shootout win that followed the 90 minutes in Central Valley. The penalty shootout win secured South Georgia an extra point in the USL Jägermeister Cup standings.
