STATESBORO, Ga. – April 6, 2024 – In a riveting match-up, South Georgia Tormenta FC earned a commanding triumph over Lexington Sporting Club with a 3-0 score. Tormenta FC now leads the head-to-head series with two wins, one draw, and one loss against Lexington SC.
In just the 8th minute of play, Gabriel Rodriguez, assisted by Jackson Khoury, secured the first goal of the night with a close-range shot blasted to the top of the net. The goal scored against Lexington Sporting Club marks Rodriguez’s second goal of the 2024 season, with the first goal occurring in Tormenta FC’s home opener against Central Valley Fuego.
The game was rife with tenacious plays and fierce duels. The first yellow card was shown to Lexington’s Yannick Yankam in the 13th minute. South Georgia saw four yellow cards during the match.
Lexington SC’s Daniel Chica committed a foul against Tormenta FC’s Pedro Fonseca in the 26th minute inside the penalty area. Fonseca took the penalty kick and converted it by tactically slotting the ball into the back right corner of the net, bolstering the early lead for the Ibises.
The first substitutions occurred in the 63rd minute, as Head Coach Ian Cameron substituted Fonseca and Rodriguez for Sebastián Vivas and Niall Watson. Watson remains the leader of the team in goals for the season.
South Georgia Tormenta FC made a series of technical passes in the later half of the match, searching for a goal. Following a corner kick late in the second half, defender Jake Dengler sent a header over to Vivas, who sent the ball flying into the net, earning South Georgia a third goal of the night.
Keeper Ford Parker made multiple valiant saves, maintaining the clean sheet of the match. Conor Doyle and Preston Kilwien made notable blocks, playing an integral role in the maintenance of the night’s decisive victory.
