HARVEST, Ala. – South Georgia Tormenta FC travels to face North Alabama SC on the road on Thursday night June 22 at Sparkman High School Stadium at 7:30 p.m. CT. The contest comes after Tormenta FC toppled SC United Bantams at home in a 3-1 victory.

The Statesboro side is 1-0-0 (WLD) all-time versus the Alabama side after securing a 3-0 win over the division rivals earlier this season at home. In the reverse fixture, Emma Tucker opened the scoring for South Georgia after entering the field as a second-half substitute. Gemma Jefferson doubled the advantage minutes later in the match before Elis Nemtsov’s strike put the exclamation point on an encapsulating victory.

Through nine games played, Tormenta FC sits in third in the South Central division on 12 points. Head Coach Jim Robbins and his staff will be without Smith Cathey as the midfielder continues to nurse a lower leg injury sustained earlier this season. Roisin McGovern, Emma Tucker and Jhenesis Ellerbe are all probable for the match while Celine Ottah is questionable. South Georgia will be in search of another three points to propel the squad up the division table.

Last time out for North Alabama SC, the Alabama side earned its first three points of the season with a 1-0 win at home to the Bantams. Forward Sabrina De Silva scored the lone goal of the match. Currently sitting in last place in the division on three points, North Alabama will aim to empower a late season division table jump with a victory on Thursday night.

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC defeated SC United Bantams 3-1 on Thursday night from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. Three second-half goals helped the Statesboro side to a come-from-behind victory to claim all three points.

“I thought we started off the game very strong. How many corners did we have in the first 10 to 12 minutes? Six or seven? It’s great to see us out on the front foot. We just couldn’t find the net in the back. They [SC United Bantams] got something weird in the first half. We’ve seen a lot of things this year, and that’s a good one. We talked at halftime that we need to go take the game to them. We need to go get the win, put your head down, and attack. We had a couple other good chances, and I think both of the penalties were the right call.”

Kiana Jacobson tested the SC United Bantams’ goalkeeper quickly with two attempts on goal in the opening five minutes of play. Tormenta FC continued to press forward as the first half wore on with Tess Werts and Katie Phee trying their luck on goal. Halfway through the first half, Cora Brendle was called upon to make several saves to keep the score level at zero. On 28 minutes, SC United Bantams found the breakthrough with a first-time finish at the top of the penalty area into the upper-left corner. Peyton Chick and Kaylie Chambers each had an effort on goal in the closing minutes of the first half, but South Georgia went into the break down by a one-goal margin.

Tormenta FC started the second half strongly on front foot. In the 55th minute, Tormenta FC finally found its equalizer. Kiana Jacobson latched onto a loose ball that was mishandled by the SC United Bantams’ goalkeeper and slotted it home. Substitute Elise Holcey kept up the South Georgia momentum in the second half with a hammered shot on goal that couldn’t creep in. In the 73^rd minute, the Columbia side was penalized in the box for a handball, and Elis Nemtsov stepped up and picked out the top-right corner to give the home side the lead. In the closing minutes of the match, South Georgia was awarded a second penalty of the match. Sarah Hagg’s effort from the spot was saved, but Taylor Golden put the rebound back into the six-yard box before it deflected in for an own goal. The Statesboro side saw out the remaining stoppage time to secure the win.

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC is set to host the SC United Bantams from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET. Despite inventive forward play and resilient goalkeeping play, Tennessee SC tallied two more goals in the second half to claim all three points on the night. The result means the Statesboro side remains fourth in the South Central Division on nine points after eight games played.

South Georgia will hope to add several names back to the squad after missing several players through injury. Tess Werts made her return to USL W League action on Monday night after missing the previous two matches. Defender Roisin McGovern and midfielder Celine Ottah will enter the match as questionable, and midfielder Smith Cathey remains out with a lower leg injury.

Last time out for SC United Bantams, the Columbia side took down Birmingham Legion WFC at home by a 4-0 scoreline. Forward Corinna Zullo opened the scoring in the first half for the home side before three unanswered second-half finishes secured the win. The Bantams currently sit sixth in the South Central Division on eight points after six games played.

BRENTWOOD, TN – South Georgia Tormenta FC fell 3-0 to Tennessee SC on Monday night at Ravenwood High School Stadium. With the result, Tormenta FC moves to 3-1-0 (W-L-D) all-time versus the Tennessee side.

“I think we are all disappointed with the result, but you have to give the kids credit. They fought for 90 minutes. They didn’t stop. They didn’t give up. They didn’t put their heads down. I loved the attitude. I loved the desire to go compete until full-time. The result wasn’t in our favor tonight, it is what it is. We will hopefully learn from this, get better, and get ready for Thursday.”

Keara Fitzgerald opened the match with a fine diving save to energize the South Georgia side. Midway through the first half, Tormenta FC began to grow offensively through Peyton Chick’s ball-carrying runs into the Tennessee half. Tennessee SC took the lead on 39 minutes played slotting a shot in the right corner of the net. Jhenesis Ellerbe picked up a yellow card just before the halftime break as the Statesboro side entered the break behind by a goal.   

The Tennessee side doubled its advantage in the 54^th minute following a swift counterattack. Forward Tess Werts made her return to USL W League action in the 59^th minute after missing the previous two matches due to injury. South Georgia continued pressing late in to the second half in search of a goal, and substitute Katie Phee was regularly on outlet down the left flank. Tennessee scored its third and final goal in the 82^nd minute on a back post finish to gift the home side all three points.

BRENTWOOD, TN. – South Georgia Tormenta FC travels north to face Tennessee SC in a regular season USL W League contest on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. CT at Ravenwood High School. Monday night’s game is the reverse fixture of a 1-0 win at home for the Statesboro side on May 22.

Alaysia Lane rescued a point for Tormenta FC in dramatic fashion with a late equalizing strike in the 88^th minute of play against Birmingham Legion WFC. The Alabama side took the lead midway through the first half of play, but South Georgia showed resiliency across the defensive line and midfield to weather any further Legion chances. Through seven matches played this season, the Statesboro side sits third in the South Central Division on nine points.

Jim Robbins and his staff will travel to Tennessee with a deep squad in search of three points. Midfielder Smith Cathey remains out for Tormenta FC following an injury sustained versus Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves SC. Midfielder Celine Ottah and forward Tess Werts are in contention to feature against the Brentwood outfit. Captain Jhenesis Ellerbe also is expected to be available after picking up a knock at Birmingham.

Last time out, Tennessee SC drew 1-1 with SC United Bantams with midfielder Meredith Nye scoring the lone goal for her side. The Tennessee side sits fifth in the South Central division owning a 1-2-2 record (W-L-D).
