About the Unified Team
South Georgia Tormenta FC, since its inception, has considered itself a pillar for all to come together to cheer, celebrate and rally around a common love of soccer. With this in mind, South Georgia Tormenta FC created a path for the youth to become professional athletes, provides professionals with a welcoming, reputable club to call home, and gives pre-professional women a jumpstart to their playing careers. With each of these stepping stones, Tormenta found new, unique ways to elevate and champion sports in the region.
In 2023 South Georgia Tormenta FC, in conjunction with Georgia Special Olympics, brought a new facet of inclusion to South Georgia’s sports arena: The Unified Series. The Special Olympics Unified Series program focuses on promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competitive experiences to connect people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.
Tormenta FC’s Unified Series team will play a pair of matches against Greenville Triumph’s Unified Series team. The team is led by Head Coach Alex Wagner and Assistant Coach Rich Flemings.
Upcoming matches
The Unified Series team will play immediately following the 7:30 p.m. USL League One match on Sunday, June 9 at Tormenta Stadium. The team will also take on Greenville Triumph’s Unified Series team at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 in Greenville, South Carolina.
